Returning attention to one thing
How do I return after another distraction?
Try the practice →Name the next visible action
Returning to work is easier to describe when the action is small. Instead of “finish everything,” choose “read this paragraph” or “write the first sentence.” Put the next action in view. You can make another choice when it is finished. This creates a place to return when a notification or unrelated thought interrupts you.
Notice what draws you away
Distraction can begin with a sound, a habit or a task that has become unclear. Try noticing the moment before you open another tab. What were you trying to do? Is there a missing piece of information, or are you looking for a brief change of feeling? The answer can guide the next practical choice.
Explore more than concentration
Your Attention, Your Life follows attention through work, screens and everyday habits. Mindfulness and Everyday Wonder explores curiosity and familiar things seen again. Making Room to Live asks what repeated input and accumulation leave less room for. Choose the book whose opening question is useful in your actual day.
Practice during an ordinary pause
Take a few seconds to notice an object before picking up your phone, or listen to the last words of a question before replying. You can practice attention without making every activity an exercise. Choose one repeatable moment and see what happens when you meet it deliberately.
