About this book
What can older contemplative teachings help you notice about the life you are living now? Old Is Gold brings ancient wisdom and spiritual reflection into short daily readings. Zen koans, yoga philosophy, Buddhist ideas, intention, and non-attachment appear alongside questions about fear, choice, concentration, and the habits of the mind.
The book connects inherited teachings with a reader's own observations rather than requiring every passage to be read as a literal account of reality. There are 51 main days of paired morning and evening readings, followed by two bonus entries on Day 52: 104 readings in all. The form gives you a place to start each morning and a second encounter later in the day.
You can follow the sequence or return to a subject that is relevant now. The opening entries consider intention, attraction, will, and suggestion. The sequence then turns toward Zen koans, Yoga Vasishta, the aims of yoga, chakra teachings, and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
Some readings give a question or contemplative image to stay with; others offer a spiritual interpretation that you can consider in its own terms. The middle of the book examines belief, fear, unhappiness, inner awareness, concentration, and decisions. A daily reading can help bring attention to the assumptions behind an action: what outcome do you expect, what do you value, and what has become familiar enough to escape notice?
A useful response can be modest and specific. Later entries return to the past, visualization, boredom, acceptance, renunciation, and non-attachment. Buddhist sayings and reflections on consciousness give the ending a contemplative emphasis.
The book does not turn every tradition into a single system; its compact entries invite a slower encounter with individual ideas and their place in ordinary life. Subjects you will encounter include: Zen koans and questions that interrupt habitual explanations. Yoga philosophy, Patanjali, and spiritual perspectives on awareness.
Intention, suggestion, visualization, and the expectations we carry. Concentration, fear, acceptance, and choices in daily life. Buddhist wisdom, non-attachment, and reflections on consciousness.
Allow two to five minutes to read and consider an entry. Take more time if a passage raises a useful question. A short reading can open a longer sitting or accompany a quiet pause; the length of the entry does not set a limit on your own observation.
The morning and evening passages approach the day’s subject from different angles. Individual readings include “Attraction”, “Yoga Vasishta (Ancient Scripture)”, “Good Decisions”, “Past”, “Non-Attachment”. These titles show the range of the sequence and give you subjects to revisit after a first reading.
The paired form allows the second reading to meet a day you have actually lived. You may notice an assumption, a reaction, or an example that makes the earlier passage more concrete. If you keep notes, a few honest words can be enough.
Return to what happened rather than trying to produce an impressive account of progress. Old Is Gold is Book 6 in Meditation, Mindfulness & Enlightenment by Enlightened Anonymous. It can be read independently.
The series brings together concise meditation ideas, spiritual perspectives, and questions for self-discovery, with room to agree, question, compare, and continue learning.
