A Mindful Tea or Coffee Break
You do not need a special tea ceremony to notice a drink. This practice follows a few ordinary moments with a cup: waiting, holding, tasting and setting it down. The drink is a place to return, not an object you need to appreciate perfectly.
Before you begin
Choose a drink you already enjoy, or use an empty cup. Check its temperature and hold it safely. There is no need to consume caffeine, finish the drink or change your usual diet.
The practice
Let it be ready
While the drink cools or settles, notice its colour and the shape of the cup. If there is a sound nearby, include it rather than waiting for silence.
Notice contact
Hold the cup if comfortable, or rest a hand on the table beside it. Notice weight or texture without searching for an unusual sensation.
Take one ordinary sip
When it is safe, take a comfortable sip. Notice one quality of taste, warmth or movement. If you are not drinking, trace the outline of the cup with your gaze instead.
Set it down
Notice the moment the cup meets the surface. Leave a little space before the next sip or action. Repeat if you wish, then finish the break deliberately.
A small ending.

Carry it into your day
A mind that wanders has not spoiled the break. The next touch, sip or sound is another point of contact. There is no requirement to attend to every second of an ordinary pleasure.
Make it your own
Use water, a cool drink or an empty vessel. If taste is not an inviting focus, stay with shape and contact throughout.
A question to keep
