NOTICE WHAT ATTENTION CHANGES

One scene. More than one way to see.

Look around a small illustrated world. Explore a detail, the space between things, and the whole scene. There is nothing to find or get right.

Rain at the windowAn illustrated window, terracotta cup, leafy plant, rainy sky and distant hills. Use the text description for the same exercise without looking at the illustration.

AN ORDINARY MOMENT · AN OPEN VIEW

Read a description of the scene

A deep blue window frames a pale, rainy sky and distant hills. A small terracotta cup rests on the ledge, beside a green plant. Fine lines of rain cross the glass; the cup and ledge stay still.

LET THE VIEW BE WIDE

Include what is around the detail.

Take in the cup, plant, window and sky together. If one thing draws you in, notice that shift, then allow the wider view again. You do not need to hold the whole scene perfectly.

You can also try this with an actual view in the room around you.

What changed when you changed attention?

Move between the three views in any order. Did a detail become clearer? Did you notice a space you had overlooked? Nothing noticeable is an observation too.
