Meditation · Mindfulness · EnlightenmentA GENTLER NIGHTTIME PAUSE
When Thoughts Keep You Up
The day grows quiet, and your mind keeps going. Rest does not have to become one more thing to accomplish. This practice offers a short break from solving tonight.

THIS MAY SOUND FAMILIAR
Where you might be.
- Tomorrow’s tasks begin to line up in your mind.
- You replay something from earlier in the day.
- You are awake and feel pressure to make yourself sleep.
A DIFFERENT WAY IN
A little room around the moment.
Trying to force a quiet mind may add another layer of effort. You can keep your eyes open with a soft gaze, adjust the screen brightness, and choose a comfortable position. If a thought needs attention tomorrow, it can remain unfinished for now. The purpose is to give yourself permission to stop working on it, even if sleep does not come at once.
TRY A SIMPLE PAUSE
Begin where you are.
Notice a simple line or soft patch of light in the room. Let your eyes rest comfortably. When a plan or memory appears, acknowledge that it is here and return to the room. Continue only as long as it suits you. You may put the screen aside at any time.
Another approach: If visual attention feels too bright, choose a familiar sound or the contact of a blanket or chair; use only what feels comfortable.
Does this truly need an answer tonight?
Set the device down when you choose. You can rest without judging how quickly sleep follows.
